Job Description:
Space Environment Technologies (SET) is a global leader providing space weather products. We are a team of engineers and scientists developing technologies to enable human evolution into space. We are seeking extraordinary students to join us on a part-time basis during the Summer of 2024 supporting development of a high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) UAV called ARGOS. The prototype (ARGOS 1.0) is currently progressing through low-altitude short-endurance flight testing. As an intern, you will be tasked to help design, build, and fly ARGOS 2.0, the primary objective of which is to achieve 20 km altitude for extended periods of time.
Job Type: Summer 2024 Engineering Internship
Estimated hours: up to 160 per month
Schedule: Flexible M-F
Location: Work will be performed in our lab in Compton CA
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
• Strong understanding of the aeronautical concepts which apply to a HALE UAV
• Able to work in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other interns, full-time engineers, and outside manufacturers
• Able to help the team physically build ARGOS 2.0
• Must provide own transportation to commute to our lab in Compton CA
• Organized, self-motivated, with excellent communication
• Must be a US citizen
Desired:
• Developed UAVs of any size including hobby drones
• Experience with avionics, aircraft structures, or solar-powered systems
• Experience working with ultra-lightweight wings
• Proficient CAD designer, preferably Solidworks
• Proficient coder, especially C++, Python, and MATLAB
• Familiar with machine shop equipment and tools
