Key upgrades include a new microcontroller and active heating control, both essential as ARMAS expands operations into the solar system.

Outside cover inscription: The outside cover has the inscription “half-way there, livin’ on a prayer” engraved on it. This inscription came from a suggestion by Desmond Child during a breakfast chat with W. Kent Tobiska in June 2019. In the Aegean morning light while at the Anemomilos boutique hotel in Folegandros their discussion turned to SET’s build of an instrument for the International Space Station (ISS) and the dream of going to the Moon and beyond with ARMAS. Desmond suggested “why not put half-way there, livin’ on a prayer on the cover?” This phrase, combining two lines from the 1986 number 1 hit song written by Desmond along with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora titled “Livin’ on a Prayer,” captured the yearnings of two working-class kids facing life’s struggles with only their love and ambition. It was the perfect analogy for SET’s effort to pull resources together to get to the ISS, driven with tremendous support from family and friends. Thus, the cover was engraved with the inscription symbolizing SET’s efforts and vision enabling human evolution into space.

Inside cover initials: We are proud to list the initials of those who contributed to the success of ARMAS FM9. These are listed on the inside cover of the ARMAS ISS instrument, which included both the FM9 and the Liulin–SET.
